Honda Formula One: No serious buyers

In 31 days and 11 hours, we will be in front of our TV screens eagerly awaiting the start of the years 2009 Formula One grandprix season. Honda has today announced that it has no serious buyer for it's F1 team. The rumors have been running wild since the time Honda announced it would part from it's F1 division in December 2008. Rumors of people like David Richards, Carlos Slim Helu and even Richard Branson have been said to be interested in purchasing Honda's F1 division. Those rumors have all proven to be wrong or failed attempts at securing Honda F1's future. It is true that David Richard's Prodrive had been attempting to enter F1, but with Aston Martin running in serious financial problems and the global economy in distress, it was probably a good thing he didn't.

Even if Honda finds a secure deal, it would be surprising if they could prove to be competitive in the begining of the season. With no engine deal secured and no training sessions yet to have been planned, Honda F1 is seriously behind it's competition. A deal with Mercedes-Benz was going to be reached for the supply of engine units until it was announced that no engines would be supplied unless Honda finds financial backing for the entire season. These are deserpate times for Honda and we cannot help but feel sorry for Jenson Button who might have to take a holiday from the 2009 F1 Season. We seriously want to see Honda on the starting grid in a month but is that realistic?
