Racecars go green: the GreenGT

CarPlatform was chosen to be the official news source for the Swiss company Green Racing GT. Green Racing GT has unveiled today their brand new project the GreenGT. The GreenGT, is an all electric prototype race car that has been imagined by a group of Swiss engineers. You will be able to see the car at the Energissima Renewable Technology Show in Switzerland.

The GreenGT is the first car of it's kind. Powered by two 100kw electric motors, the GreenGT will deliver unrivaled performance figures. The GreenGT unleashes unimaginable amounts of rear wheel torque; over 2000Nm! For our American friends that's 1475 ft-lb!. The Green Racing GT engineers did not want to face the same transmission problems that Tesla are facing so they decided to patent their own transmission and gearbox. The GreenGT which weighs 860kg (1896lbs) will have the power equivalent to 350hp-400hp. Think about it, that's as if your standard Porsche 997 Turbo had 620hp and had far better aerodynamics and grip.

The GreenGT 's two 100kw electric engines will be powered by photovoltaic Flexcell solar panels placed on the body of the car which you can see on some of the pictures below, as well as two lithium-ion 30kWh battery packs. The GreenGT's first track day is scheduled to be in the middle of May but the engineers already predict a top speed of around 275km/h (171mph) and a 0-100km/h(62mph) in well under 4 seconds.

The GreenGT has been designed to race in a ecological racing series that is yet to be developed. The races should run for about 30-45 minutes, as this is what the technology of the moment allows. Ultimately when batteries allow for more power at a reduced weight, you can be sure the Green Racing GT will compete with internal combustion engine Le Mans Prototypes (LMP).

This is the only information released by Green Racing GT but we will update you with more pictures and details as soon as they are released. If you remember well Green Racing GT are also the company that developed the "Sunny Green Box" which is a system that will ecologically replace gas burners in order to heat racing tyres before a race.
